Director of Environmental Services of the National Forest Financing Fund in Costa Rica. During my 23 years of work for the National Forest Financing Fund (Fonafifo), I held various positions related to the management of financial resources aimed at maintaining and conserving the country’s forest cover. I was responsible for the purchase and sale of environmental services agreements with private hydropower companies and national coordinator of the Huetar Norte forestry programme (PES project co-financed with resources from the financial cooperation of the German government). Responsible for the development and registration of Costa Rica’s first forest carbon project with the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, I am part of the technical team that supports Costa Rica’s REDD+ strategy. The latter has managed to achieve CO2 emission reduction sales with the Green Climate Fund, the Forest Carbon Partnership Facility and recently with the LEAF Coalition. I am currently director of environmental services and responsible for the technical and operational execution of the payment for environmental services program, which is the main financial mechanism to recognize the environmental services provided by forests and forest plantations through a payment to farm owners. The Program maintains 330,000 hectares of forests under management each year.
